Inferior fi at its finest: Complete lack of national identity, too western to be Chinese, too Chinese to identity as western. Technically part of China but city is heavily influenced by western culture. History textbooks in school do not teach you history of Hong Kong nor the british empire, instead the history of China, and about how evil the british were to invade China, yet our parents tell us about how the british saved us from communist China. Reality is that both are horrible, we are forced to choose between identifying with the evil british empire or the horrible prc. We don't even have our own national anthem. While technically having our own unique langue, media we consume are mostly either in English or Mandarin. We insert English words into our Cantonese sentences to daily conversations. Most people can tell you the first president of USA is George Washington and the current leader of China is Xi Jinping, yet a lot of people don't even know who our chief executive is. No one knows anything about internal Hong Kong politics, the only political discussions we have are about whether we want China have control over us. Absolutely ZERO national identity. Heck, ask someone from Taiwan what they identify as and even they can confidently answer either Taiwanese or Chinese. Ask someone from Hong Kong the same question you will get no answer. Complete te over fi: The thing about lack of national identity is that no one even thinks about it. We are too busy to think about what we identify as. As possibly the number one most capitalist society in the world, the entire city is essentially just a battle royale survival of the fittest. You succeed? Congratulations you are one of the many insanely wealthy people in Hong Kong. Otherwise? Live in a cage home with one of the worst living conditions on the face of the planet, and no one would give a s*** about you. Entire city is basically just one giant corporation. How can you possibly have time to think about your identity in this city? You're too busy to bother with your fi, how much more ESTJ can this get. On the surface it looks like a utopia, highest life expectancy, healthcare, gdp per capita, libertarianism and education on the planet (or second only to Singapore), yet look deep enough and you will see the emptiness in the city
