As an Ni dom I found both protagonist represented the function very clearly. Maybe the most realistic Ni dom personality in all fictional characters I've ever read or watch. As for Aomame case, Her Se inferior served as an anchor function, when her unfulfilled desires cannot be realized by the dominant function came to the surface that's her Se (She basically became and ESFP when she projected her Animus image). Throughout the story her desires comes up in her urge for physical fitness and the fantasy of sexual pleasure. And her Ni is very clear when she told about the only men she love in this world, without being attributed to her Se that came as her sexual fetishes. Not the Men himself, but the idealization of his image and she enshrined him in as it's her religion.
