From S1:E1 (Netflix timestamp: 14:26): Mrs. Hudson: What do you think then, Dr. Watson? There's another bedroom upstairs, if you'll be needing two bedrooms. Watson: Of course we'll be needing two. [confused look] Mrs. Hudson: Oh don't worry, there's all sorts 'round here. Mrs. Turner next door's got married ones. This is such a great illustration of how the Fe/Si cognition can be used for humorous effect. Mrs. Hudson, in one fell swoop, instinctively sizes up Watson/Sherlock as being gay, then genuinely tries to make Watson comfortable about his "identity" while at the same time evaluating that supposed identity against the general public notion that homosexuality is still, to some extent, a cultural taboo. All of this is handled deftly by Fe and Si, but together they produce conflicting sentimental evaluations, leading to confusion. This is a common -SFJ trope even in real life. They may unconsciously try to toe the line between conflicting sentiments on two different levels in the interest of maintaining harmony, but instead come across to the other party as being disingenuous or passive-aggressive - in a subtle way that can't really be called out directly but still gets under some people's skin.
