You can tell he has Te and inferior Fi from the way he interviews his subjects. If an interviewee is shy or “awkward”, he gleefully takes advantage of the moment. He makes no attempt to make his guests feel comfortable, but instead revels in their discomfort for the sake of “good television”. Letterman has no Fe at all. (Contrast him with Jimmy Fallon, whose Fe is abundant.) His jokes also tend to have a not-so-subtle “punching down” quality—not Ne-Ti curiosity, but Te-Ni quick judgment. I’m tempted to say it’s a generational thing, seeing how “old fashioned” his jokes come off from my younger vantage point, but even older talk show hosts like Cavett don’t do this. Conclusion: it’s his cognitive functions. ESTJ would be my second guess.
