Set-play is often referred to the act of setting up some form of hitbox with enough active frames to be a meaty (meaty refers to a specific timing where attacks cannot be jumped-out by the opponent after them waking up), this allows for a variety of options for the attacker, like mix-ups, block-strings and block-pressure and a mix of the two. Popular games that embraced Set-play as the default is Guilty Gear, along with Rose and Juri in Street Fighter are popular examples of Set-play centric characters.
