i don’t even know why this needs to be explained, especially if you’ve read the novel. sure, INTJs and ISTPs are both very logical, but if you’re familiar with INTJs, especially if you’ve read about INTJ main characters, then you’d know that their minds are constantly working, picking up information from the world around them, using their knowledge and logic to determine future possibilities and their future course of action. they can take calculated risks, yes, but they don’t like jumping into things, especially when they’re not sure of the outcome, especially when it’s their lives on the line. does this sound like you huo? “He was like an exceptional risk taker. Despite the cold exterior, inside he was both wild and crazy.” sounds like a perfect description of ti-se in my opinion. ti-se shows him making very abrupt and crazy decisions, but behind each one lies a proper reason that aligns with his own logic, even if it may not align to others’, especially the system’s. this is why a lot of ISTPs are seen as rulebreakers, because they make decisions based on what they think is true, and don’t mind going against what’s agreed on. we see this far too many times with you huo (seriously, was there even an exam where he didn’t end up getting punished?) if you’re still not convinced, then one look at the inferior functions would be enough. INTJs have inferior se, ISTPs have inferior fe. if you huo’s se was really that weak, then would he be able to act as quickly as he does? would he really be described as someone who, “was able to adapt to the systems changes faster than any of the other invigilators..” even if it was well-developed, an INTJ using their se that well in every situation sounds quite impossible. inferior fe, on the other hand, has him turn away from any sort of emotional problems, both of others and himself. his automatic responses to everything and everyone are indifference and rudeness, and that’s because he simply isn’t used to dealing with emotions any deeper than that. ti-se leads to a very logical, in-the-moment way of living, and often, emotions can be forgoed, especially the politeness and amiability that don’t really matter in the life or death situation the examinees are going through. but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about anyone. in fact, inferior fe also has him putting great importance on others (especially those he cares about), even to the point of disregarding his own wellbeing. it’s inferior, after all—which is why we often see him going to extremes just to keep others safe. taking both his and qin jiu’s punishment for the both of them yet not wanting qin jiu to know cos, by his logic and inability to explain his emotions, he thinks it’s better that way. the line “If he was successful, everyone was free. If he was unsuccessful, only he would be affected.” is far too self-explanatory, and there are way more instances wherein he shoulders all the pain and blame so that others wouldn’t have to. this is way too long, but if any of the INTJ votes have arguments, then i’d enjoy seeing it.
