WHY JAX TELLER IS NOT AN NI USER AND ADDRESSING ESTP STEREOTYPES. I've just finished season one and on my way to watching season two. Overall, I can confidently say that he's an Estp with good reason. For those who are voting Enfj or still Infj let me give some explanation as to why this doesn't make sense as a vote. I can understand why someone would vote Jax as an Infj or Enfj. Out of the whole entire group, he is considered the most moralistic, calm, and rational. Unlike everyone else in the club he thinks ahead, and doesn't take impulsive action all the time. However, this does not mean he is an Ni user. Let me be clear, there seems to be a misconception on this website that having goals, thinking long term, or even having some vision you want to accomplish simply means Ni. This is not only incorrect but damaging stereotypes too as well. Ni is specifically an abstract function. It is not only the interpretation of sensory data, but also a lived experience of it too in one's head. Simply put, if you have high Ni, you are able to live out certain sensory experiences in your head. It's Se but imaginary in a sense. What comes with this is an abstract interpretation of data, and a belief in the symbolic. Does this describe Jax at all? Hell no. Jax is someone who is highly realistic. His whole entire world view is about what he sees through his five senses. All his decisions are based on not only the present moment but his world view is also shaped by this too as well. He doesn't easily get flustered by highly sensory environments and is comfortable performing in environments where intense situations are required. Now I'm not saying that low Se users can't do sensory experiences, but at the end of the day, it's going to be clear that highly intense ones like the ones Jax faces are going to be a struggle for them, and we can clearly see that this is not the case for Jax. I also believe that Jax's Ti is highly underrated on this page. If you are voting Enfj, I can say without a doubt that Jax having inferior Ti doesn't make sense in the slightest. He is a very rational person. Is he moralistic? Yes of course, but he also makes the most logical decisions he can in the present moment. For him it's a balance between being subjectively rational and also balancing his external morality (Ti-Fe). Jax is someone who goes against the logic of the group too as well. He's keenly aware of the flaws in other people's logic or the external logic that doesn't make sense. He's always pointing out the flaws in what other people are saying and tends to make sure that his actions or even decisions logically align with what he believes makes sense to him. He also doesn't value group atmosphere all the time or the collective group harmony (Fe dominant). He's willing to cause group disruption which is clearly evident at the end of season one and at the beginning of season two, when he becomes very confrontational with his own group members of the club. In conclusion Just because Jax thinks ahead, or is calm about his decisions doesn't mean he's a high Ni user. Anyone can think ahead and be calm about their actions. The reason why Jax isn't an Ni user is because he's hardly abstract or symbolic. He just looks at the present given situation, tries to make the most logical decision, and then balances this out with group harmony. I think it's understandable, considering this is a smart Estp character that defies a lot of stereotypes, but I think it's time that we correct this profile and make sure that this Infj consensus dies out.
