NEVER 👏 FREAKING 👏 MIND 👏 I changed my mind on this but still going to leave the comment up for y’all to read- I’ll explain why I changed my mind at the end Guys I think Nick uses Fi... I've been in denial about it because I really liked my initial hunch of him using Fe that I kept trying to argue for Fe in my head but yeah.. I'd really love for someone to prove me wrong lol cause I can't see him as a percieving type. Fi cares a lot about morality and authenticity. They define their own morality and hold their values in high regard. One of the first thing Nick says to the reader is that he wishes the world would stand in unison at a moral attention forever and that he despises when people get only privileged glimpses int o the human heart. He wants people to get to know each other over their outward appearances. That's why he enjoys Gatsby's company- cause Gatsby is truly the most authentic man. This is the greatest paradox of the novel- that Gatsby, the man who's been pretending to be someone he's not his whole life, is actually the most real man Nick ever knew. The idea is that Gatsby stayed true to what he believed in and projected the image that he felt he was inside to the outside world. Nick sees this not as pretending to be someone you're not but as finally becoming who you were meant to be- turning yourself inside out. I honestly don't see many other Fi traits though- just the way he handles morality is in a very subjective rather than objective matter... maybe he's ISTJ with a really strong tertiary Fi lol OK OK here’s my explanation- Nick uses Fi as the critical parent function. So with good parent Fe that makes the critical parent Fi which manifests as “my dad taught me to be empathetic and reserve judgements and that is the lesson from him that I have internalized but I still have a tendency to be critical of others, especially when they go against my values” Essentially he uses Fe in a positive way, having strong morals about the way the world should be and using it to improve the world, while being overly critical using Fi, making him despise when people are inauthentic. And put themselves first

Biografia

A young man from the Midwest who comes to live in New York to go into bond sales. He moves in next door to Gatsby in West Egg and somehow befriends the man. Easy-going, somewhat deadpan, and optimistic, but not for long.
