I read ExxP discussions and people here like to write that he must definitely be S just based on the fact that he does the things he wants to do. I'll tell you something, N doesn't necessarily mean we can't act. N does things more spontaneously, he tries new possibilities and constantly changing their views and interests. Ed's whole idea and fascination with Sted for first is that he is bored with the way he lives and that everything keeps repeating itself. He literally tells Izzy in one part that they are doing the same thing over and over and "again and again" and that it's "so f*cking boring". The reason he actually does what he says he's going to do is because he's passionate about the activity. He literally wants it more than anything because it's something new, unexplored, and he wants a change. N's are actually very good at doing what they really want if they have a real passion and drive for it and he has that. And his occasional stupid things he does? Just a result of frustration with things always being the same and trying to come up with other ideas. We're human, we all like to have fun sometimes. He really needs some new creative impulses to feel alive. (Which, of course, we can assign to his 7 also but it's typical for N.) And finaly.. All I can say about F and T is that everyone have emotions regardless of personality type (unless you're a psychopath) and we all really can love and also suffer from heartbreak. Ed can't deal with his emotions and feels used and betrayed by the person he loves. Izzy, who has always been close to him in some way, tells him that he is not who he used to be and basically tells him that he is not good enough. Ed, hurt by what happened to him, closes his feelings inside and decides to vent his great pain with anger to show that he is still good enough and above all that he doesn't need anyone and can handle it all. But none of this is natural and healthy for him, and we are talking about an unhealthy type change here! It doesn't prove his F, only that something very painful happened to him!! In the final scene, we can see Ed sitting on the window, where he is crying, because he is still incredibly hurt by all this and quite possibly does not know what to do now. His desire has crumbled and he feels lost, empty and like nobody. Ed acts logically, is not controlled by emotions and even tries not to talk much about bad events. He avoids them and prefers to divert his thoughts to a new, more fun activity (of course, we can also talk about 7.) Also when he got mad at the captive and Stede told him he wasn't worth it, he was able to calm down almost immediately and actually stop and start thinking more calmly. If this isn't a good example of a preferred T, I don't know what is. Yes, he got angry because the sentence "your kind" reminded him of something from the past. His mother and the pain he holds inside. But this just proves that he has emotions like any other person. Most of the time, his childish (and very sweet) enthusiasm prevails over his logic, so he is often hasty and spontaneous. In which we can well observe Ne-Ti. Ed is a very sensitive person, but so is my close friend Entp, whom I saw crying really often when he was in really bad pain a few years ago. ENTP's also can cry, aren't heartless and do silly things when they are in pain. And we also must take into account that he is chol-melancholic. So that's why I think he can't be S and absolutely can't be F. However, if you think I've written something stupid, please teach me where and why. I'd hate for anyone to think I'm just trying to keep him and me the same type. I'm still not sure about ENxP myself because I'm very emphatetic and sensitive. And I'm also aware that I'm far from giving everything. I could look at it from the other side and I would certainly find good arguments for S and F, but true is none of us are just black or white you know.
