(1/2) KANA ARIMA E4 ARGUMENT “please…. somebody look at me. ive been keeping this cry inside me for years.” reading over comments within this pdb page, ive seen lots of different votes. I remember one mutual and others on here have voted kana as E3, and I’ve even seen some people vote ET for here. im here writing this argument to show you why that is not the case, and why kana arima is most definitely an E4, and one of the better examples of one at that. first, its best to differentiate and distinguish E4 from all of the other types. the E4 is first and foremost a heart type, and is fixated on the Passion of Envy. the E4’s is specifically fixated on the passion of envy, which leads them into an unhealthy recurring action they cannot stop, and struggle to simply stop to begin with. what does this mean? the heart types (E2, E3, E4) fixation is crystallized in the emotional body. this is the search for love from the outside. these types are often called the “relating group” because their style is to specifically move towards people, in contrast to the gut types moving against people as well as the head types moving away. they constantly ask themselves “who am i with?” and the central issue for the heart types are the need for love and approval, with a perceived inability to be loved for who they are. these types think in emotions and waves of feelings, which are feelings of neediness and trying to get approval and love. just with this description, we can already see how much it fits kana throughout the whole manga. starting with her relationship with aqua. kana very obviously loves and admires aqua beyond some platonic level, and essentially does whatever she can to get his approval and constantly express her neediness for his love. for example, we see kana cry at the mere sight of aqua and akane kissing even if it is just a business relationship, but immediately feels happy and relieved once aqua asks her out to play baseball. in a later chapter, we also see kana start to love pieyon once pieyon acts kindly towards her, in comparison to aqua who would often just act coldly despite actually loving her back. in a more recent chapter too, we also see aqua burying himself in his more negative and traumatic thoughts, and accidentally harshly yells at kana and pushes her away without realizing. kana immediately cries and just outright assumes that she isn’t loved whatsoever. another thing about E4 is their passion of envy, which is what characterizes each enneagram type and is also a key component to the types, and even the subtypes. The passion of Envy in E4 causes this type to compare what is lacking and frustrating within themselves, and then compared to what is perceived by the E4 as desirable in others. the E4 therefore can never feel happy and comfortable in their environment and are always stuck in feelings of shame, self inferiority and worthless at lacking a parental figure and lacking love and desirability. while a heart type like E2 and E3 identifies with an idealized image, E4 feels like they fail to fit this idealized image and as if their worthless and lacking, and therefore try to find ways to fit this idealized image. looking over at this description of the E4, it fits kana pretty well, and it tells us everything we need to know about her character. theres a chapter in which kana arima is caught meeting up with a director, a boy during the middle of the night and even entering his place. in the idol industry, female idols ever even dating anyone whatsoever is looked down on by fans, as can be seen with how ai hoshino was stabbed to death by a crazy stalker fan due to him feeling betrayed about his favorite idol dating someone. in the idol industry then, idols need to be pure. idols need to be the ideal person, and to be perfect so that everybody can love them. people need to desire these idols fully. the idol industry essentially reflects perfectly what the heart triad aims for, which is why someone like ai hoshino who intentionally does this and identifies with that image of the ideal idol despite acknowledging that this image is just a lie is an E3, while we can see an E4 like kana absolutely fail to ever identify with the image of being pure. when kana found out and was confronted by a article writer about her being caught being “impure” according to what the fans say, she immediately panics about all the hatred that may be sent her way. of her failing to get approval and love, she later clings to aqua, asking him to save her while acknowledging how horrible her asking this is, and then admits to herself that she can never be impure. we can find more evidence of kana being an E4 in the chapters where the new b-komachi involving kana, ruby and memcho make their debut. while memcho and ruby are performing, she feels jealous and envious memcho and ruby. Kana Arima (有馬 かな, Arima Kana) was a child prodigy and actress, a friend of Aqua and Ruby Hoshino, and the lead idol of the renewed B-Komachi. Before this, she used to be a popular figure in the entertainment industry, one who always stole the show with her talent. Due to this, however, she started getting fewer jobs, and had to change her acting style to be more adaptable to survive in the industry.
