I still haven't concluded my Watchmen reading so don't be surprised if my argument lack some important information I'm yet to encounter throughout the journey. Anyway, I feel as though I've gathered together enough information for this 'Berthier' (or LFEV) typing, so stick with me a little bit longer. It wasn't a surprise to me when I first opened this page and saw 4F as the consensus. I get the perspective; it's very intuitive, right? I mean, the guy is detached, "floating", he looks like his vision of the world doesn't abide much from a material perspective. It looks like he has no life at all—limited capacity for enjoyment. That's a "sufficient" understanding of Fourth Physics. However, I think this view is bound to be biased by his current condition in the plot, in life generally—he has become a sort of heavenly individual given the absoluteness of his mind. See, if he already was a largely self-absorbed individual before given the combination of First Logics + Third Emotion (1L+3E), that will naturally result in a dry, thinking person whose critical mind is exacerbated, with a certain degree of emotional confinement. He is also quite vulnerable in his relationships with women, emotionally dependent on them. A melancholic temperament arises here quite pertinently. Taken for granted that his functions of Physics & Will are extroverted, let's look at some facts. «Fourth Will people have vague ideas about their desires, and it is difficult for them to separate their own needs from others. At the same time, they are quite careless about their place in this world, not attaching importance to either class boundaries or the power of the mighty of this world.» «Fourth Will don't oppose themselves to others, and people usually don't want to conflict with them either. They can withstand authority among colleagues and family members due to their benevolence and openness.» «Fourth Will have no need to assert themselves and influence this world.» I already had my clues, but I realised better & accurately this lack of imposing character after some of the first flashbacks about his past. He seemed to be getting fond of practicing with watches. It was fascinating to him to find out how things simply work, whether it be materials or not. Anyway, with watches specifically made me think that he's more practical and has simpler interests than it seems (therefore making a case for strong Physics). Years later, forced by his father, he actually became a talented physicist—admittedly fulfilling his father's orders. "you are too young to be a researcher," he was told, to which he replied with: "well, my father kind of pushed me into that area. That happens to me a lot... other people seem to make decisions for me." And, if you pay proper attention, that really hasn't changed throughout the years. He keeps following orders that he finds convenient; he is first introduced as someone who submits himself to Laurie's orders. Finally, he seems to embody the stereotype of the greedy type 5 who doesn't interact much with the world for fear of engulfment, the avoidance of being "swallowed up by others", and prefers to establish a retentiveness in himself, skillfully avoiding to live. He follows the orders he is told but never really gets involved, as a painfully indifferent individual, with a never-imposing attitude which is first shown by the Comedian's backstory, when the Comedian shoots the pregnant lady and he did nothing. His vulnerability in regards to the accusations of him causing cancer to people also displays how fearful and unimposing he is. "the world needs to go its own way" is type's 5 mantra as well as its lack of strong character, strong "I", lack of strong Volition. all of the above is why 2V doesn't really work for him. 2Vs are fearless, free souls who do not fear getting involved with life. Now, with Physics... Symbolically, 2F makes a lot of sense. His body and physical vigor have always been a weapon; both as the talented Physicist and worker he has always been, and as the most powerful hero. He survived the experience. That may not mean 2F per se, though it is certainly something against 4F and the physical decadency they are found in. Think anecdotally about Walter White (another LFxx); even when his body betrayed him, he kept working and it gave him a drug empire. With Jon, even after incidents and mishaps, he never stopped being a worker. Firstly, someone fascinated with Watches; later, with Science. › LF is the most practical Psychosophy club. Troubleshooters with high intelligence for solving specific tasks. Preferred area of activity: scientific and technical. Excellent craftsmen, engineers, skilled workers. Their speech is usually filled with deep, even philosophical, thoughts and concrete material images.
