The dynamic between Jin and Lord Shimura reminds me a lot of the relationship between Hanzo and Genji Shimada in Overwatch. (Spoilers ahead for both games) Lord Shimura and Hanzo Shimada are both ISTJs who were raised to be the leader of a samurai clan. They were both indoctrinated with the codes and traditions of their families, so much so that they have no sense of identity without them. In Overwatch, Hanzo is ordered by his elders to "straighten out" his brother; Genji, for choosing to disregard the family clan and to live a life of debauchery and wealth. When Genji refused to change, Hanzo was ordered to kill him. They ended up engaging in a duel (similar to the one between Jin and Shimura), but Hanzo was by far a superior swordsman and easily defeated Genji. Convinced that he killed his brother, Hanzo was heartbroken by what he had done and this caused him to renounce his clan leaders and abandon his family's entire legacy. This also made Hanzo a traitor to the clan and he began to live a life on the run as he was hunted down as one of their enemies. I like to think that Lord Shimura would be like Hanzo if he did successfully kill Jin, a man who was taught to value tradition and found his pride in being honorable, but this drove him to sacrifice his own family in order to maintain it. Unlike Shimura's case however, Genji was only heavily crippled and miraculously survived his brother's assault. Genji's body had to be built into a cyborg for him to survive and he eventually forgave Hanzo. Just something that crossed my mind.
