I think Shane is an ISFJ and here's why ; first of all, introverted sensing is a very misunderstood function much like ni. it too is an irrational function as Jung said because it can come up with conclusions in an unconscious way as well. it depends on an already formed belief system and facts to draw its own conclusions from which explains their perceived 'rigidity' by other types but that's not all. si relaxes in familiarity, they like comfort and it's the function most in tune with internal bodily needs. now with Shane some people argue that's not how he is when that's not the case. he appears to rely on the system his mother already formed for him, it's all he knows. he doesn't explore a different version of reality even in thought bc this is already working for him even with how complex it is. he follows a certain routine, respects what's expected of him and acts accordingly. his relationship with Ilya is complicated bc of his career not bc he has a problem with his sexuality itself. we see clearly how he immediately recognizes what his body wants and acts upon it. even when he seeks freedom he still knows that he can't bc of his duties and what's expected of him so he forms a routine with Ilya that can satisfy his needs and keep his life as it is. Shane is Canadian, he's liberal and his belief system is based on his society that isn't as ragingly homophobic as many other countries which is why internalized homophobia isn't really his problem as much as the fact that he fears for his career. his career that he even expressed that he doesn't enjoy much anymore but continues doing bc that's the life his mother set up for him. having a vision/goal/plan isn't an ni thing and it's honestly ridiculous to still read this in other arguments. Ni is an introverted perceiving function, not a judging function. The primary purpose of the introverted perceiving functions is to translate information into a form that our brains can understand and process. yes it sees between the lines (which can be wrong at times bc 1) it's subjective 2) their low se doesn't help much with making their conclusions correct) and can see things others don't see but first of all we don't see that in Shane. secondly, it's still got nothing to do with planning by itself. as for his inf ne, I can say that it's apparent in the way he always either assumes the worst or is completely clueless to the fact that there are other alternatives to his situation. when he sees kip and Scott kiss, his reaction is very different from Ilya. Ilya was like "wait why didn't I think of that?" but Shane was entirely speechless as he didn't even think that was a possibility. also inf ne isn't as strong as dom or aux function but it still exists and it works best when the person grows and starts to be comfortable in their own skin. we see that in the last episode when he starts to think of a different alternative for his future with Ilya. one that isn't simply a routine they follow to get a bit of satisfaction but a stable functioning life which really resonates with si-ne way of thinking imo. inf se doesn't work for Shane either. inf se has trouble being grounded in reality so they either become wholly avoidant of their source of stress or act impulsively in bursts in order to feel in control, to compensate for their weakness. we don't see that with Shane, he is super grounded in reality and he listens to his own body well, something also seen from the beginning, he knows what his body wants and so he creates a safe space/plan to satisfy that. his insecurities lie mostly in fearing the worst possible outcome which is losing his career and his reputation which is why he finds comfort in routine and staying grounded in the rules he already knows and understands.
