This may be totally insane because I get why he's voted ISFJ, I do, it makes so much sense, loads of Si and Fe, definitely not dom Fe because he simply doesn't like socialising that much, so ISFJ makes soooo much sense. But HEAR ME OUT. INTP Stephen with very well balanced functions. He's by far the most mentally healthy and most balanced protagonists of any of French's books, so I think that his Ti and Ne get drowned out because of how intense the other detectives are. He's quiet about it, but from the get-go he's a critical thinker looking for an angle (taking up Frank's offer in TFP, going to Conway in person in TSP). He's also very direct and honest, definitely one of the characters the least inclined to lie (esp compared to Cassie and Frank), which I think is because of his Ti. His He comes to conclusions and follows patterns pretty quickly, not enough for an Ne dom, but his intuitive thinking style and the slightly whimsical aspect of Ne thinking specifically is really clear in TSP and I think secondary Ne and tert Si are why he romanticises St Kilda's a good deal, but is able to 'snap back' to reality when he needs to (dom Ti). Very well developed inferior Fe, which is why one of his defining qualities is just that he's a guy who's easy to get along with. He straight up admits that even though people want to be friendly with them, and he doesn't have a problem being friendly with people, he doesn't actually WANT to have close friends or get along real well with people. He just doesn't want to be disliked, and he has an objective view of how his non-offensive personality traits can be used to get that.
