Si vs Ni (Just as a warning, I could certainly be wrong in this assessment and, to be honest, I’m not very confident in this typing as we are not shown much of Ao Bing’s thought processes in the movies. I think that a lot of different typings are very likely and this is just my opinion because I didn’t see many arguments for Ni usage in the comments) Si: When dealing with life, Si users tend to rely on familiar sensory details to create a sense of security for them. This could be caused by their inferior Ne, which would lead to high Si users imagining the worst possible outcomes for situations, and sometimes rejecting the possibility of more positive outcomes when unhealthy. These more unhealthy Si users could become risk averse and inflexible due to a feeling of insecurity from being without the previously mentioned familiar sensory details. More mature Si users tend to be meticulous, conscientious and grounded. However, being responsible and caring about duty, which can be signs of Si users, do not necessarily mean Si is present. Overall, a high Si user tends to focus on finding familiarity to establish a sense of self assuredness. The decisions a Si user makes tend to be in order to preserve familiarity and to prevent negative outcomes that their Ne imagines. Ni: On the other hand, Ni users tend to strive for a sort of abstract mission or purpose in life. This could be caused by their inferior Se unconsciously absorbing information from the physical world, and their higher Ni recognizing the underlying theme behind that information and leading to the formation of a purpose. More unhealthy Ni users tend to be unable to easily let go of their ideals and become unrealistic and tunnel vision on their goals. More mature Ni users tend to be determined, diligent in their pursuit of achieving a purpose, and idealistic. However, being moral and focused, which can be signs of Ni users, do not necessarily mean Ni is present. Overall, a high Ni user tends to focus on finding an underlying purpose to establish a sense of self assuredness. The decisions a Ni user makes tend to be in order to pursue their purpose and are usually based on the underlying patterns they observe. Before I get into the main argument, I think that there are many lines and behaviors that suggest stereotypical Si or Ni traits in both movies. For example, Ao Bing states at one point to pay attention to details in the first movie, a stereotypical Si trait, while he also shows the traits of being mysterious and focused, stereotypical Ni traits. However, since these pieces of dialogue don’t seem to affect Ao Bing’s overall character, and since being mysterious and focused can be traits of both Si and Ni users, I decided not to talk about those pieces of evidence. Si vs Ni To start, Ao Bing’s main internal conflict in both movies is between following what he believes is the right thing to do, and following the expectations and upholding the duties imposed on him by his family. This conflict seems more adjacent to Si usage. However, upholding duties and responsibility are not necessarily absolute indicators of Si. An argument for Ni can be made in the fact that Ao Bing tends to follow his view of what he must do instead of his duties in both movies. For example, in the first movie Ao Bing convinces Shen Gongbao to let him save Ne Zha’s parents and master despite the risk it poses to the dragon’s plan. In addition, Ao Bing’s first reaction to learning that Ne Zha is the demon pearl is to question whether or not he is truly evil, despite knowing and being told that it is his responsibility to defeat the demon pearl. At the very end of the first movie, Ao Bing at first decides to destroy Chentang Pass in order to help his family, which could certainly be seen as Si. However, Ao Bing eventually decides to risk and nearly kill himself in order to help Ne Zha(joining Ne Zha when he is struck by lightning), demonstrating his willingness to take risks and go against his duties in order to follow an abstract view of what he believes he should do. In the second movie, Ao Bing shows this characteristic as well. In the beginning of the movie, he pleads with his father to save Chentang Pass and to not repeat the mistakes the dragons have made in the past(possibly to bridge the differences between demons and humans). This is shown throughout much of the second movie with Ao Bing’s character, as he later also states how he wants to become an immortal in order to gain respect and create a change in the perception of his clan. These behaviors generally line up with Ni’s focus on creating a sense of purpose on how the world should be(that being bridging the differences between demons and the rest of the world), and many of his actions and beliefs seem to serve this. However, a Si user can have a lifelong purpose as well–as Ao Bing’s father also aims to recover the relationship between demons and humans, and is more clearly a Si user. What I believe sets apart
