- Sets up a single future goal at an early age, working tirelessly toward that future goal and ignoring to have fun like how his peers do (Ni-Te, inf Se) - Refuses to catch the ball and improve himself in sports because he sincerely believed that he was being a burden for his team from the start and it was better for him not to try at all (using Ni to make conclusions against Se environment, which he deems pointless, showcasing Fe polr) - Starts to become aware of his environment and comes up to a conclusion that if he doesn't start to live his adolescence thoroughly immediately, then he will lose in future competitions; pushes himself to compete against Mitsumi (coming to terms with inf Se and using Ni to back up the observed conclusion that will lead him to a better self, utilizing Te to push himself further) As to why I think he is not an ISTJ, his character's initial problem was his Ni-Se tunnel vision instead of letting Si override Ne. He has no problem imagining that the life plan he drafted for himself would not be the best for him once he puts himself in an environment with people with more than one advantage over him. He also seems to ignore societal expectations and the idea of what an all-arounder high school student should be for a long time until he meets Mitsumi, which a person with Si in their function stack would be highly aware of. In general, I don't think an ISTJ would be that unwilling to recognize the importance of socialization and having fun if they are social norms, and throughout the chapters, we see his development through Se instead of Ne (changing his haircut, becoming confrontational in student council elections, openly confessing his interest in Yasaka, etc.)
