Some advices for non-french speakers : - The 3rd conjugation group is just a junkyard for verbs that couldn't fit into the first two - 97 is said "quatre-ving dix-sept", but some regions say "nonante sept" like in Belgium - "Pain au chocolat" vs. "Chocolatine" debate - Words have gender without context ("Hmm table sounds really feminine, doesn't it?" "Oui, bread is masculine but baguette is feminine") - Even if there is only one boy in a group of 100, the pronoun will be masculine - Conjugaison is an incredible mess (for ex : "je SUIS" (=I am) but "nous SOMMES" (=we are) for "ÊTRE" (=be) conjugaison in indicative present - And still it's not the most complicated of the third group) But I can say it’s the same with a lot of other languages - Even if you learn French perfectly, it won't help you everywhere because a lot of French people make mistakes (like everyone else) and speak verlan (inverted language used mainly by young people). Languages aren’t perfect, what you will learn isn’t always accurate with the way people talks in real life - Forget "French politeness", it's often a myth (colloquial language is used much more than the sustained which you may never encounter in your lifetime - like almost everywhere else tbh). French people aren’t more polite than everyone else Cordialement /hj

because of a certain... je ne sais quoi, or because French is just—Quel est le mot juste? —cool. And don't forget that French used to be the lingua franca of the Western world, and still is a lingua franca in Africa; educated people would learn it to talk to other educated people, possibly about how uneducated everyone who didn't speak French was.. characters who speak French are often viewed as intelligent and sophisticated.
