At first, I was almost tempted to type him as INFP 4w5 (he is pretty clearly one of the Fi dominant types) after his release of God Save The Animals, as it seemed like a concept album with central themes— his easy, natural use of strong metaphors and ideas (dogs, etc) to express an concept or emotion through art (typically type 4) led me to believe he had a developed Si but his Ne was stronger. However, after looking deeper into interviews after the recent album release, I saw: “Some of the lyrics refer back to faith or God,” he explains as we walk through the woods in search of a quiet place to chat. “It’s not a concept album, but those types of lyrics came up more than usual so I figured it couldn’t hurt.” He goes deeper to tell how he didn’t really plan much, and tended to be spontaneous and run with opportunities as they came (far more prevalent Se). When asked about the title of the album, he states: “It made me feel something” and continues to say: “It’s always the same thing with me where I work pretty hard on the music and I don’t work very hard on my personality,” he concedes with a grin. Now, many people still are confused why he is being voted 4w5 but this typing is pretty consistent with him. He is very focused on his music, channeling these feelings in bursts and utilizing his natural musical sense. He abstracts and layers these songs with the intent of an obscure, haunting or strange sound. He changes his sound and explore different genres in every album, finding new ways to express his Fi. This makes him very unpredictable in his style, similar to many other 4w5 artists (thom yorke, etc), which also led me to initially believe he could have been INFP, as type 4 is extremely common for this MBTI. However, it is pretty clear in his music and intent that his Se is stronger, but tertiary Ni is still prevalent, making him a solid ISFP 4w5 :)
