Yōkai can be animals, monsters with animal features, humanoids with monstrous traits, inanimate objects come to life, or beings with no discernible shape. In some folklore, yōkai are animals or objects that became infused with supernatural energy after existing for a very long time. Yōkai usually have supernatural powers, with shapeshifting being one of the most common abilities.
