This guy of course was a huge douche throughout a lot of the movie, but you could also just really taste the insecurity and need to assert himself as "cool enough to be liked" throughout the story. Like, just look at his dorky grinning face on his (probably self-made) invites to his red panda birthday party. That's a dead giveaway that he's posing. I'm glad he starts hanging with the girls in the end cuz he could really use some friends that would just make him feel accepted without having to try too hard. :(
