His whole arc of him trying to get an idea is his lower Ne trying to do something. All his hatred for the new and fear for the future and the changes that come with it, but all the time trying to keep his family safe, like when he started stepping on the spikes despite being the first to say that they shouldn't step on them just to reach Guy. He's in a Si-Te loop, trying to get everyone to listen/obey to him while trying not to let things change, and keep everyone together, even when he had already accepted the idea of not surviving, hearing the conch and thinking that his family was in danger was what really motivated him to have his first big idea, and survive, not because of him, but because his job was yo keep his family safe. All his development is based on knowing that he has to accept the new to continue living and trying to have ideas. He is such a good written character.
