Satoshi's works always seem to have a very messy and non-cohesive plot, constructed by seemingly random frames and time skips (Ne) that are almost nonsensical at first glance, but when you look closely, the plots actually have a very clear logical backbone supporting them. In Perfect Blue, the plot has multiple layers that correspond to one another, like a story within a story within another story, and they are labelled as "Take One", "Take Two", etc. In Millennium Actress and Paprika he used a similar technique, binding several layers together to form a structure. His works resemble the subconscious mind of a human being, like when we are dreaming, we produce seemingly random images that are all there for a reason. They reflect our true thoughts, fears, and they are interconnected and recurrent. It's like Ni being illustrated by Ti + Ne. Satoshi is actually approaching human subconsciousness at a very fundamental level. By using Ti, he is able to take apart how the human brain functions, and he then tries to illustrate this abstract concept by presenting it in the form of storytelling so people can have a better grasp of it. His works aren't really about self-exploration and authenticity (Fi), they are about how the subconscious human mind works (Ti). He is also very impersonal about the characters; as he has mentioned in an interview, he likes writing about female characters because he himself is a male, and because of his lack of understanding of women, he can then use them as a container for his ideas devoid of any self projection. Edit: After understanding more about the Ni function, I decided to change my vote to INTJ. The interconnected and recurrent themes and imagery in his movies are a sign of Ni and not Ne. He explores the abstract and the unknown, more than how exactly things work, which is a sign of dom Ni rather than Ti. I also start to think that the themes regarding individualism and self pursuits are a sign of a lower Fi. It's expressed in a very structured way that reminds me of Christopher Nolan's films, where the emotions are there albeit mechanical. The characters they both write lack a soul to them, they are there to bring out a certain concept that wants to be explored.
