So after thinking about it, I have decided to explain why I believe he is indeed ESTP since I didn't really see anyone else talking about it. Also keep in mind I only watched the first two seasons of the anime so take it with a bit of grain of salt. Starting from the obvious, he is definitely Se dom. He is impulsive, focused on the moment and improvises most of his attacks. I considered ESFP for a bit but just because he is loyal and has strong attachments doesn't mean he has a high usage of Fi. That is probably just his enneagram 6. I think an example of his usage of Ti might be how he became a fury. He didn't become one right away once he was given the water of life, instead he decided to think about whether or not it's the only logical way for him to gain his health back. But once Kondou got hurt, he acted on impulse. That behavior probably indicates Se with enneagram 6. Another detail that I thought about might be his hair. Keep in mind he is trying to copy Kondou's hairstyle, however he still cuts it in the 2nd season to fit more into the Western style. I think that shows that he is capable of putting his feelings aside in order to do what he thinks is the most logical thing. That being said, I think his Fe is very obvious. For the beginners, yeah his goal in life seems to be to protect and serve the others. However other than that, he keeps pushing his limits to live up to the expectations of everyone. That probably means that he cares about the social values a lot. He also keeps mentioning how he will kill Chizuru if she ever gets in his way, but once she actually does in the 4th episode of season 1 (I believe that's when it happened) he doesn't do that. In fact he protects her. That is probably because he understands Chizuru's intentions and is pretty aware of her values, aka the social values. So that is why I think he is ESTP with a high usage of 6w7. Of course I might be wrong though. EDIT: I think I forgot to mention another evidence of his Ti usage. When Kondou died, he blamed it on Hijikata for not being able to protect him. However instead of letting his anger out on him, he left him alone because he knew that at this point Hijikata is the only one who can lead Shinsengumi. He even decided to protect Hijikata since he knew that if he wants Shinsengumi to live on, the only logical thing he can do is to protect Hijikata no matter what even though he said that he can't forgive him. This once again proves that he is willing to put his logic above his own feelings.
