I don’t usually comment, but I found this character really interesting and wanted to share my thoughts. I understand why some people see INTJ, but INTP seems to align more consistently with how he actually thinks and makes decisions. While he does express large-scale ideas (like unifying Japan), he treats them as optional rather than inevitable. He was fully willing to abandon that vision in favor of a personal life with his wife, which suggests the absence of the kind of internal compulsion typically associated with Ni-dominant characters. He also seems comfortable holding multiple possible directions without needing to narrow them into a single, fixed outcome, which leans more Ne than Ni. I know the main argument for INTJ is his statement at the end of Episode 1 about wanting to “change the world,” and the scale of his goals in general reading as something stereotypically Ni. But his motivation only becomes active after external circumstances push him into it, and even then it’s heavily influenced by his wife’s wishes for him to use his abilities. That reads less like a long-standing internal vision and more like a direction he arrives at through circumstance and reflection. Having big goals alone doesn’t necessarily indicate Ni. In contrast, his decision-making consistently reflects Ti. When confronted with his wife’s death, he initially considers immediate retaliation, but quickly revises that impulse after evaluating the consequences and chooses a more strategic response instead. That kind of thought process under pressure aligns more with Ti than with Te or Ni-driven actions. There are also hints of lower Fe in how he manages emotions. He maintains composure in public situations but processes his grief privately, suggesting awareness of social context without prioritizing it. Additionally, when the farmers belittle their jobs he seems to recognize the emotional circumstances and then “comforts them” through the importance of farmers historically in war and logical thinking (a mix of Si and Ti being used). He shows an ability to recognize emotional states, but he tends to respond through explanation and reasoning rather than emotional alignment. Overall, he comes across less like someone following a singular, internally driven vision, and more like someone analyzing situations in real time and adjusting his approach based on what makes the most sense. That pattern fits Ti-Ne more naturally than Ni-Te.
