As an individual who exhibits beliefs that correspond to agnostic atheism and moderate nihilism, I am not afraid of death by any means. I do not believe in a heaven or hell and broadly speaking, any afterlife that suggests eternity. Sure, it would be heartwarming to see my ancestors and loved ones in the afterlife, but the scientific consensus holds that no evidence supports the persistence of consciousness in an eternal afterlife. Before I arrived on Earth, I was nonexistent for billions of years and did not feel a single thing, therefore, there is no rational reason to spend my remaining time on Earth exhibiting continuous fear about what follows. Religions were invented by humans to serve as explanations for the unknown as our brains have limits in comprehension. The gods that are frequently mentioned in religious texts were additionally created by humans as concepts to explain the beginning of the universe as science has yet to reach a concrete conclusion for that aspect. Humans as a species are intelligent, intuitive, and creative, which means possessing the ability to create concepts such as gods, religions, countries, and such. Events that were initially attributed to gods were eventually debunked by science as it expanded and enhanced. Consider the ancient Greeks. They attributed the occurrence of earthquakes to Poseidon for centuries, until science advanced enough to disprove the attribution with the movement of tectonic plates. We can apply this form of logic to eternal afterlives. They were, as well, invented by humans to create a sense of comfort and belonging when the time of the biological process of death arrives. Humans naturally form bonds and groups with other individuals as it has been ingrained in their evolution for thousands of years, primarily for defence and survival. When the concept of death is brought up, fear is implanted as humans cannot fully comprehend its complex framework or the emotional weight of separating from family members and friends.
