(Edit: Why ENTJ VOTES?!) The general consensus is correct in that Fang Yuan is an INTJ, but given that there are no concrete explanations for his type and minor confusion over the functions, Fang Yuan could be typed with ENTJ, INTP and even ISTJ. I aim to remove any misconceptions for dominant Te/Ti and Si. Dominant Ni is a hard function to type, but it seeks to find a subjective interpretation of meaning and truth based on interpretations of patterns to extrapolate future implications. Fang Yuan demonstrates a very clear, albeit hidden (as in the case of introverted intuition) use of this, whether it is in his understanding of the trend of times, or his interpretation of his life's meaning. I want to elaborate on the latter, which is a representation of dominant Ni/Inferior Se. It is a pity, but I cannot find the exact quote but around chapter 300-400, Fang Yuan recites the goals of life i.e, relationships, power, wealth etc. These are all goals and valid, however he interprets all of this objective concrete goals (Se) as ultimately meaningless to the illustrious eternal life, a very clear demonstration of intuition in general. Ultimately, his extreme detachment from reality allows for him to not only rationalise the murder of others (read Wang Er's death, chapter 66), but more importantly, detach himself from his wellbeing and willingness to sacrifice himself for this illusory and even outright impossible goal. This came from his youth after a life of hardship, where the battle between meaningless reality and a pursuit of a impossible goal was won and became his life's meaning. Auxiliary Te, Fang Yuan is very pragmatic and willing to further his own goals by any means necessary. Rather then devise his own theories based on some internal framework (Ti), he adapts very willingly to the facts and expands his extrapolations on said facts (Te). But is not dominant, more like used as a tool for Ni, then as a dominant worldview. Tertiary Fi is interesting. Now some may say he has Inferior Fi because he is "emotionless" and a great demon with no bottom line. But after 500 years of life and a complete worldview, such outward feelings will obviously be muted in favour of Ni. I think the best view of his Fi is in his flashbacks, with uncle Blackbeard and the mermen. This is a stark contrast to the present Fang Yuan, with a maturing Fi. We see that Fang Yuan treats the people close to him very well, even willing to risk his life for Blackbeard based on a PERSONAL code of ethics (Recall his exact words), not answering to some objective code of ethics as in the Gu Yue village mentality. In the mermen city, Fang Yuan was even willing to risk his life to prevent the schemes against Xie Han Mo which seems inconceivable now. This was because of his "eye for a eye" worldview reminiscent of when he saved Blackbeard. Such displays of feelings are now muted, but still hide in the background such as in chapter 127 with his opinion on societies, giving a clear "holier-than-thou" attitude for these "idiots". I don't want to mention Se again, but it is not tertiary as a relieving function, but is actually STRICTLY against his worldview (immortality) and as such, is inferior. The absence of such is very obvious, but its appearance is rare. When Fang Yuan reaches Shang Clan city and during the tournament arc, he expresses his fulfilment in expressing his frustrations on the physical world as "Little Beast King" with his fists. Alas this never appears again, even when with Reckless Savage (ESTP) who is the obvious incarnation of this persona. Ignoring the physical reality and impossibility of Immortality is another example of ignoring the concrete (Se). Now, lets talk about Fe and Si. Fe is about connecting with an external, objective source of feeling or code of ethics. Fang Yuan never demonstrates this, despising this. Of course, this may be an inferior/tertiary Fe, but we never see any HINT of him longing for this even in his youth, pointing at an absent function. Si is about comfort in the physical details of the world or past, that is facts based on their subjective interpretation of reality. Fang Yuan has no Si, he takes no comfort based on such facts of his past as a solid anchor of his identity (only through the use of dream realms do we see his past) and is willing to completely sacrifice his wellbeing and life for some illusory goal. Definitely not dominant Si, check Thieving Heaven if you want an example (Legend ISFJ). Actually, now that I think about it, THIV exhibits similar traits. But consider the difference, THIV was all about his subjective sensation of home and his spouse, while Fang Yuan was about his subjective idea of his life's path, mirror functions (introverted perceiving seeking to create a narrative) but not the same (Si vs Ni) Now this is unrelated, but I see "ENTJ", "ENTP" and other "Thinkers" giving little or wrong reasoning for his type. Where is your critical thinking?
