i can definitely see the 9 in him - the conflict avoidance, passivity, complacency, and the way he's kind of stubborn deep down - it jumped out to be quite quickly. he sort of "numbs out" when it comes to everything in his life except kiyoi, as well. i feel like he lives in an unhealthy 9 daze for a lot of his life until he meets kiyoi and his presence "saves" (i don't think you can actually be "saved" by someone, but it's convenient shorthand) him. when hira beats up shirota, it doesn't only mean protecting kiyoi. that's his goal and motivator, but when hira does it, it also means he's utilizing his anger, which he usually represses and hides from. kiyoi gives him the courage to work through the fog he lives in (and later, of course, kiyoi motivates him to actually pursue photography in a more motivated way) 9s dislike being pressured into things by people, but have trouble saying no and accommodate others. he's pressured into becoming an errandboy for a group of boys in high school, and even when someone outside of kiyoi's circle asks him to clean for him, he can't say no, instead freezing. i think that kiyoi being able to say no and be confidently, assertively self-centered in the way he treats people is part of what attracts hira to him. it's different from him. anyway - i'm awful at explaining but i'm pretty sure he is indeed a 9. i also believe he's disintegrated into a 6 for a lot of the series, which is why he's incredibly insecure and catastrophizes so much in nikukare. on that note, his development in nayamashii kare points to me that his point of growth is definitely 9 to 3. but while i've voted 9w8 because it felt more right than 9w1, i remain unconvinced it's definitely his wing. it could just be the gap between a 9w1 and 9w8 is a bit unclear to me. any 9w8 voters (or 9w1) who feel strongly about the wing?
