Eiji is an ISFJ. (1/2) Si: Stability I should establish what Si is so we’re all on the same page. Si is stability. Si is not memories. Si is not being attached to the past. Si is not duty. Si relies on stability. For reference, think of an ISTJ office worker which works in a menial but constant work life or an ISFJ mother growing accustomed to how her family members act that when one doesn’t follow how they usually act, she knows something isn’t right. (Stereotypical examples but the examples that come out of the top of my head.) Going on with this, Eiji has more of a lenience to stability and what is than intuition, a third eye, eureka moments and linear paths. Considering that Eiji is one of the very first survivors in the mist (the mist appearance order is in the order they were released into the game), he has grown adjusted to how the mist works. In Eiji’s 6th memory, he reflects on life in the mist and how everyone has adjusted to it (which is a bit of Fe and I’ll talk about it later). He has grown accustomed to the mist, taking it as his new life (in a resigned way). His Si takes charge and makes him able to live with this life because, even though the mist is hellish, it still has a sense of stability as it cycles through the cabin life of survivors socialising and going through the rounds which has a set of rules and how to accomplish them. “But Eiji knew about the mist and its little game. He knew it far better than he wanted to.” Now, let’s get onto Cole. I think his aversion to Cole in his voicelines and Cole’s 2nd memory is because of the fact he has grown so accustomed to the mist as mentioned before. He has become stable with the fact that the rounds have killers who are meant to kill and he has to run away from them. (Cole could’ve been the first killer to actively spare survivors and be punished for it. While I do think Ye-jun probably spares Dae, the mist allows it as their interactions have a lot of drama and is entertaining for it.) So when he sees that Cole is a killer, his stability on how the mist works immediately makes him scared of Cole, even if they were lovers and tries to put that fact aside. Hence, we get lines like: “You weren’t the same as you back then, Cole… We both changed!” “It’s better if you just forgot about everything, Cole!” “Cole, I can’t keep doing this…” However, I will admit this is just a theory, not a full on argument but it’s how I see Si in his character. The only reason I could see him doing this with Ni is that he sees only one path where it just doesn’t work out for them. However, this leads into my next paragraph. It’s implied that after a while of killing, Cole decides against it and chooses to spare the survivors. Eiji sees this, sees he was wrong about Cole and how the rules of the mist won’t affect him and chooses to sit and hang out with Cole during the rounds. He reverts from the “stability” of the mist and goes to the stability of Cole and how they were back then. (Hell, there are still bits in the memory before this point where he tiptoes around the “stability of Cole” and wants to have their old dynamic again.) I think a Ni dom in this situation would accept it but still be apprehensive when they know that Cole is still getting hurt and there’s still the potential of their intuition’s vision of them not working well. While Eiji is still nervous, he’s still hoping that Cole will push through or accept help to avoid punishments, while I think a Ni dom would have their vision constantly in their mind.
