Typing Ivan as an EN(F) SX7 ELFV based solely on his pursuit of sensory pleasure is a misunderstanding. While it is true that Ivan embodies the characteristics of a spoiled child, indulged by a life of privilege and pursuing his desires with little regard for others’ emotions, he lacks the intellectualism, charlatanism, and strategic worldview that define an E7. The SX7’s gluttony is rooted not in physical indulgence but in mental seduction. This subtype is characterized by an idealization of experiences rather than the enjoyment of the experiences themselves. Their gluttony extends beyond material pleasure to an intellectual and emotional realm, including intimate and sexual relationships. As noted in the E7 book: > “Gluttony becomes a desire to obtain more pleasure through an intellectual seduction aimed at fulfilling idealizations and dreams rather than instinctual needs. The Sexual Type 7 idealizes the other and lives in their head a relationship that only serves to maintain an idealized version of themselves, thus losing the essence of the instinct”. Ivan, however, displays none of the mental idealization or seduction that characterizes a SX7. His actions are impulsive, self-centered, and rooted firmly in the material world, reflecting a superficial engagement with his surroundings rather than the complex interplay of intellectual and emotional gluttony typical of an SX7. Instead, Ivan’s personality aligns more closely with a SP2. This subtype encapsulates his entitlement, capriciousness, and dependence on his parents. Despite projecting an image of independence, portrayed through his time alone in the United States, Ivan’s core identity remains deeply tied to his parents’ support and privilege. This dependency becomes strikingly evident at the end of the film, where his confident, rebellious persona crumbles upon his parents’ arrival. In this moment, Ivan reverts to a frightened and ashamed child, desperate to preserve the privileges he enjoys. The E2 book offers a precise description of this dynamic: > “Twos are emotionally dependent, though each with their own camouflage. The E2 conservation person is the most dependent, even if she thinks she is not and shows the world a self-sufficient image. Many move away from their family with the idea that the distance decreases dependency, but it does not usually work. In fact, he does not know how to maintain relationships without falling into dependency and that is why it is so difficult for him to form his own family and commit himself. This differentiates him from sexual and social, which are less afraid of pairing up and unpairing”. Ivan’s fluctuating behavior —oscillating between perceived independence and undeniable dependence— reflects the core struggle of the SP2. His entitlement and selfishness are ultimately rooted in an inability to care for himself without relying on his parents, underscoring the dependent and childlike nature of this type.
