The Book of Psalms (/sɑː(l)mz/ SAH(L)MZ, US also /sɔː(l)mz/ SAW(L) Biblical Hebrew: תְּהִלִּים, romanized: Tehillīm, lit. 'praises'; Ancient Greek: Ψαλμός, romanized: Psalmós; Latin: Liber Psalmorum; Arabic: زَبُورُ, romanized: Zabūr), also known as the Psalms, or the Psalter, is the first book of the third section of the Tanakh (Hebrew Bible) called Ketuvim ('Writings'), and a book of the Old Testament. The book of Psalms in the Bible is a collection of 150 sacred songs and poems in the Old Testament. It covers a wide range of emotional and spiritual expressions, including praise, thanksgiving, lamentation, and supplication. The book is attributed to various authors, including King David and other individuals. It is believed that the Psalms served as a means of worship and prayer for the Israelites, and continue to be widely used in Christian worship services today.
