The protagonist of this work is a man named Akihiko Chuzenji, who runs a used bookstore called "Kyogokudo" in Nakano. Besides his main business, he serves as the priest and onmyoji (a practitioner of Japanese esoteric cosmology) of the Musashi Seimei Shrine, which is located behind his residence. He also works as an exorcist, practicing "tsukimono otoshi." The store's name, "Kyogokudo," is borrowed from his wife's family's confectionery business. Despite being a religious professional, he acknowledges that he lacks true faith in any particular religion.
