As the story progresses, his Volition is a tool in reaching his Logical goals (finding the truth about mr. Hyde through relying on his determination, estabilishing goals and reaching them), while his Emotion is an unhealing wound, making him unable to control his worry about Jekyll being in danger and his unexplainable hatred of mr. Hyde. He deals with his Emotions through trying to find the Logical reasons for them existing. All these were points against him, but not all of these together could explain the hitherto unknown disgust, loathing and fear with which Mr. Utterson regarded him. "There must be something else," said the perplexed gentleman.
