In 1894 a man named Giovanni Capurro wrote a poem dedicated to a woman he was in love with, in which he compared her to the sun of his land when he opened the window. Four years later, the poem was turned into a song, with lyrics by Giovanni Capurro and a melody by Eduardo di Capua. Today, it is considered one of the most popular songs in Italy (and in the world). Among many other symbols of the city of Naples, the sun stands out, helping to make the city even more fascinating and evocative in the eyes of tourists, who come from different parts of the world to admire it. This song, whose title is a semantic masterpiece, perfectly expresses the authentic Neapolitan essence with very few words. Its original version is written in Neapolitan, a language that many consider a dialect, but which UNESCO classifies as a language influenced by various cultures that passed through Naples throughout its history.
