Hello I’ve read quite a few stories so far yet I still think typing this man a Four is a miss so please let me try to convince you that he’s actually a Nine here I come I feel like the type Four thoughts were hugely influenced by that confession that Shylock loves Murrs for letting him experience all kinds of things and find new sides of himself. And I would like to say that that’s how Nines mistype into Fours - both like “finding themselves”, but Fours start this very early, they always *know* that they are different, they are both afraid of the alienation and enjoy their uniqueness wholeheartedly. Nines feel fine blending in but at some point they realize that they’ve been neglecting themselves, and *then* they start trying out things to find what who are they really and what do they really like. I also didn’t see any kind of overachieving tendencies from him to call him a wing Three. He’s perfectly fine with the way he is and he is not seeking any kind of validation from others (well, Murr is another case entirely, the reason for Shylock’s uncertainty is totally different). The man stayed at the same place for centuries just casually pouring glasses of wine to his customers, duh Now, the actual points for Shylock’s Nineness: 1. He actually values Peace. When Murr entered his bar for the first time, Shylock quickly foresaw the chaos that this man can bring, and it instantly made him protective of his bar’s harmony. He also made his bar a place exclusive for wizards only because he wanted to avoid the tension between wizards and common people, and probably decided on wizards because it was them who needed a safe space from all the changes happening in the world that they couldn’t keep up with. This desire to bring harmony and peace to others is a behavior of a healthy Nine. 2. Between Guilt and Anger, Shylock is clearly an Anger type - although composed and put-together, he’s *very* irritable. He lacks both the aggressive control of an Eight and the principled ideals of a One. Instead, he withholds his anger in favour of saving at least some resemblance of peace & his face. Nines are ashamed of losing control of their emotions, they don’t like to show this raw side of themselves. 3. Water-likeness. As fascinating as Shylock is, I feel like he never pushes his own character onto others, if you get what I mean. He’s chill. He is not overwhelming even when he flirts with you (‘tis on u), he’s gentle and accepting on a lot of fronts, lets people talk and do their things and goes with the flow while actually doing only those things that he feels like doing. He’s extremely *not* used to caring about something to such a point where he is unable to go with the flow (like he’d usually do), where he wants to control and kinda impose his own wishes on someone else (the thought of that unnerves him as well). Let’s continue with the wings. I think he’s quite balanced between w1 and w8. On one hand, he believes that it’s wrong to change a person according to his own wishes, he wants to accept and love things the way they are, he wants to accept both pain and pleasure (I think Eights are kinda more protective of their comfort?) and prefers to stay true to his “aesthetic senses”. On the other hand, he’s more “present” than a w1 would be, he hates being rounded up into Figaro’s plans, he’s not afraid of showing that, he wants to follow no one’s rules but his own, and a part of him wants to control the chaos that is Murr. That kind of rebelliousness could be explained by the Attitudinal Psyche, but honestly. I’ll go with 9w8 for now just because they are more forthcoming with their disdain BUT his wings are so balanced it’s a pain (also it’s kind of sad that I can’t just pick both on this website). Let’s agree that he is just straight up perfect and let’s see where this clown show takes us next shall we To conclude: a perfect representation of a Nine’s wish for peace and subtle irritation and a wish for self-discovery (after sleeping on it for decades and centuries and millenia) paired up with Ni-Fe’s curiosity and natural mischief is quite a rare sight in fiction, and Shylock’s complex personality deserves it’s right to shine. I tried my best to stay objective, any kind of kinning was not intentional and is purely the fault of God
