He takes sadistic pleasure in killing criminals and fauxangels, especially the latter, often feeling the most alive when he cuts through them. He never shows fear in battle, his mood generally being that of an insatiable bloodlust fueled by anger, and following that, a deep satisfaction. He also gives intensely patriotic speeches before, during, and after battle. These chants often discuss either the greatness of humans and their perseverance over their alien oppressors, or the gruesome and brutal ways they will ensure humanity’s freedom by blood and force. He is unequivocally the strongest human being on Planet Magnae, and his great love for fighting only widens this gap as he trains and improves his strength. Dark and Troubled Past: Dagim was thought of as a “Devil Child” due to the nature of his birth. On the day he was born, his mother died in childbirth, and his father had his legs crippled and eyes blinded, making the day seem like a curse. He was raised by his senile and damaged father for a few years before he died, making him an orphan. He spent the years until he was a teenager as an unruly street urchin drenched in the culture of violence and crime before being sent straight to recruit school to become a soldier. The Determinator: When it comes to fighting fauxangels. In one part of the book, he chases a fauxangel over a land of scorching fire for miles just so he can confirm an alien kill for the day. In another part of the book, despite being heavily injured and on the verge of passing out, he challenges a giant demon to a fight. Like Father, Like Son: Dagim is similar to his father, Ade, before his dad’s mind was crazed and his body was crippled. Both were passionate figures who were incredibly physically adept, brave and risk-taking to the point of seeming like they sought death. But whilst his father Ade’s passion and bravery were geared towards adventure and exploration, Dagim’s passion and bravery are geared towards battle and conquest. Meaningful Name: His surname, “Chibuike”, means ‘God is strength’, ironically fitting for the strongest soldier leading the fight against a god-like alien threat who fights and risks his life as if he himself is omnipotent. Not So Stoic: Dagim typically displays an unshakeable confidence in himself and his abilities. The only emotions he typically shows are either a great passion, a controlled anger, or a calm apathy, depending on his mood. But make any mention of how his birth caused the death and disabling of his mother, then father, and he quickly gets emotional, either exploding into uncontrollable anger or struggling to suppress tears. As the book goes on, he starts to experience never-before-seen feelings of anxiety and inadequacy when it comes to his status as humanity’s saviour.
