Witches (白魔女ウイッチ Uicchi?) are a race capable of using white magic (白しろ魔ま道どう Shiro Madō?). They are people capable of using magic to help people, which allows them to grow as witches.Overview Due to their good intentions and good deeds they are able to use white magic and they cannot use offensive magic as this would involve hurting people, hurting their moral and ethical values which would cause their stone to turn black and become warlocks. This is the reason why they must have familiars to protect them from hostile people. Each witch can use the basic spells as well as special magic that depends on each witch, but every thousand years there's a witch capable of using more than a thousand spells known as the Witch of Thousands. Current witches, with the exception of Nico, can perform few spells except for the basic ones, so they usually specialize in a specialty magic that can highlight the unique talents of the user.History Around the year 1600, witches along with their familiars would arrive in Japan, taking refuge from witch hunts that occurred in a faraway land, during that period the witches settled in a village that would later be known as Yuzenkyo. Some time later, during the end of the Tokugawa shogunate,the witches would enter into a conflict with the warlocks. This conflict would be known as the great mage war. At the end of the war, the witches managed to eradicate the warlocks and their leader, Jura. To prevent their resurgence, they are taught from an early age to avoid having bad intentions.Additionally, an alert spell is placed on young witches to alert them if a warlock comes within a range of 200 metres. Characteristics Advertisement Panacea When a witch is born, it is tradition to create a panacea from their umbilical cord. This panacea is capable of curing any illness or disease, only supposed to be used in emergencies. The panacea can only be used once so if the witch uses it they can't use it again. If someone is not born a witch, they probably do not have a panacea. Grimoire All witches have a grimoire where they can save the spells they learn. Most witches can only save the basic spells and the spells of their specialty magic, with the exception of Nico Wakatsuki, who, being the Witch of Thousands, can save several spells in her grimoire. Magic Stone The magic stone is given to all witches when they are born, it allows us to know the state of the witch and if they are capable of performing certain spells. The stone is normally white, symbolizing the purity of witches, allowing them to learn a certain number of spells. However, a witch can turn their stone black if they performs spells for personal and malicious purposes, including offensive magic. If the stone turns completely black it means that the witch has malice in her heart and by performing a spell in that state the witch becomes a warlock.The stone turns black once enough malice has been accumulated, however they are not considered a warlock until they cast their first spell with their magic stone black. The stone can be reset with the help of a vampire, who sucks out their vital and magical power, and a witch, who can heal them as the vampire sucks out their vital power, allowing them to become witches or humans again.Known Families Wakatsuki Family (若わか月つき家か Wakatsuki-ka?) is a family of witches known for having the current Witch of Thousands. In ancient times, the Wakatsuki family used to have the Otogi clan and the Kazamatsuri clan as retainers.[8] Miyao Family (宮みや尾お家か Miyao-ka?) is an elite family of witches, known for their transformation magic.
