[1/4] The case for Gilgamesh as an ENFJ 2w3 has been made by several people on PDB, and it deserves a serious response. The argument goes that he is obsessed with love and being loved, that he operates on false abundance, that he needs an audience as a Social 2, that he is paternalistic, and that he sees his presence as a blessing others should appreciate. These observations are not wrong, but the interpretation of them is. The question is not whether he does these things, but why. Type 2 is defined by its core fear of being unwanted and unworthy of love. The Twos passion is pride, which manifests as presenting a love-worthy appearance to mask an internal sense of being unlovable. Their fixation is flattery, seeking connections to feel valued. Their defense mechanism is repression, keeping their own needs hidden to be loved. Most importantly, Twos are oriented toward people. They move toward others because they need others to reflect their worth back to them. Without that reflection, they do not know who they are. Gilgamesh does not move toward people. He stands still and expects people to come to him. This is the first and most obvious problem with the 2 typing. The 2 approaches, flatters, adapts, and gives in order to create bonds. Gilgamesh does none of this. He insults people to their faces. He calls them mongrels. He does not adapt his presentation based on who he is talking to. He talks the same way to Saber, to Kirei, to Tokiomi, to Shirou. He has one mode, and it is not the mode of someone trying to make themselves loved. The 2 reading mistakes his method for his motivation. He acts like a benefactor sometimes. He talks about love and blessing sometimes. But he does not need your love in return. He does not need you to need him. He needs you to recognize what he already is. And if you do not, he does not try harder to win you over. He dismisses you or destroys you.
