When I watched Dr. Aki Ross I got the initial impression of a type that does not have strong extraverted sensation. She is quite averse to conflict. Generally when someone is averse to conflict it's because they don't recognize objects in their physical space as well as others and therefore are hesitant with making real time decisions. This is Aki. ✅ Note how at the beginning of the film we see her picked up by Gray's squad and brought onboard their ship and she just quietly sits back and doesn't instigate any direct conversation, but, rather, she's responsive making room for others to take the lead, which is indicative of weak Se. ✅ Note how although Aki is weak in sensory awareness it's not because she's preoccupied with drawing subjective abstract relationships. She doesn't come across as being glued to her own interpretation of events. She is open-minded and she doesn't automatically render her experiences. An exchange that examples Aki having not rendered an experience: -------------------------- Gray: "You skipped one." Aki: [Quietly] "The fifth was a little girl, dying in a hospital emergency room. I retrieved the sample in time, but she, uh… I told her everything had a spirit. Dogs, cats, trees, little girls, even the Earth. I told her that she wasn't dying, just returning to the Earth's spirit. To Gaia. She, uh, told me that she was ready to die. She said I didn't have to make up stories to make her feel better. [Pause] Only seven years old and ready to die." -------------------------- ✅ Note how Aki hadn't fully realized the event she recalled of the little girl after being subject to it. She only realized the event upon being prompted by Gray to reflect on the experience of it. If we consider the building of subjective knowledge and expectancy as the process of gathering abstract meaning from experiences it becomes clear that Aki doesn't default to building subjective knowledge and expectancy, which indicates that Aki is functioning with extraverted intuition instead of introverted intuition because her memory doesn't hold her reception of events. ✅ Note this is why Gray has an easy time resolving his intimacy with Aki. Her abstract memory isn't paramount in her impression of people and things, that is to say, what people and things mean to Aki is open to complete revision, which supports the position that she's not consciously using Ni and explains why she endures moments of personal doubt. She's a conscious Ne type. An exchange that examples Aki's abstract focus staying on topic while changing the subject her and Sid were discussing indicating her conscious use of extraverted intuition: -------------------------- Sid: "Oh, and stay away from your friend the Captain. You save his life, he saves yours, one thing leads to another... I was young once too." Aki: "Doctor, there's a war going on. Nobody's young anymore." -------------------------- ✅ Note Aki's introverted feeling can be seen in her relationship with Gray. When they're stuck on the industrial platform elevator Aki's emotional state goes from hesitant and on guard to genuinely receptive to Gray's advances all based on how he's treating her in the moment. That's conscious Fi. She's putty in his hands. ✅ Note another indication of Aki having conscious Fi is when she returns to pick Gray up after his team had died and he told her and Sid to leave him behind. Her personal values outweighed her focus on the bigger picture. ✅ Note Aki's introverted sensation, while not explicitly expressed, can be identified in her susceptibility to physical touch. She really did become putty in Gray's hands when they were alone together. Nothing subjective was overriding her relative subjectivity, and, so, her having Si makes more sense for what sensing function could be. ✅ Note Aki's Te can be seen when she takes control piloting the ship to come back for Gray. She's able to think on her feet when she has to. Based on my observations, the consensus is correct and Dr. Aki Ross is most probable an INFP.
