(1/3) This ESTJ vs ENTJ debate has been going on for a long time, and I was initially on the fence for a while. However, after reading through the manga to see whether the ESTJ arguments applied, I can say that a lot of them don’t make sense. Granted, nobody has made a serious argument for ENTJ, so I’ll be the one to do it. Before I do that though, there are tons of fallacies and holes within all the ESTJ arguments, so I’ll be taking some of the most important ones and point out their flaws before I continue on with my own argument. “Now, on Si-Ne vs. Ni-Se. Unlike Kaguya, Shirogane isn't very talented at anything. He can compete solely because of his perseverance and studiousness, i.e. Te + Si.” This is absolutely horrendous and harmful stereotyping. Judging from this, are we supposed to conclude that Ni users are automatically more talented then Si users? How are Si users more studious than Ni users? What does any of this have to do with a person’s preferred method of perceiving? “Also, his Se is clearly lacking. Like what others say, he's dead awful at physical movements, like volleyball and the soran dance. Instead, he learns through the method he knows best - straight-up repetition and memory work.” Just like before, this is just blatant stereotyping, and there are so many logical fallacies I can point out on this. First off, let’s assume that Se actually was correlated to athletic ability. What about those who don’t have Se in their stack, as in those who use Si instead? Do we just assume they’re straight up disabled then? What about people like Mikasa Ackermann or GIyuu Tomioka, who are both ISTJs? What about those who are supposedly Se blind like Killua? How do you explain how a person who only has Se in his tertiary slot (and therefore is supposed to be weak) would automatically be better at physical movements then someone who has a higher sensory function in general? And why do people keep reducing Si to repetition and memory? At the very least, people here seem to agree that the inferior function is not well developed. Therefore, going by that same logic, a person with inferior Se should be bad at sports then, correct? What about people like Batman, Kiritsugu, Itachi, Meruem, and every other Ni-dom who are known for being good fighters? What about Kaguya herself, who is in the archery club, could beat Shirogane and Ishigami in arm wrestling, is a black belt in aikido and judo, and also performs very well in other sports too (certainly better than Shirogane)? Is she disqualified from being an INTJ? Do people understand how flawed this plane of logic is? Yet again another horrible butchering of the definitions of functions. No matter which definition of the Se function you look at: Jungian, Myers-briggs, even socionics, none of them mention anywhere that a person with Se is automatically good at sports. This is just another massacre of the functions and just portrays harmful stereotypes. I don’t even understand why people think the tertiary function is that strong, given that it opposes the auxiliary function. In a lot of systems, an ESTJ would have better usage of Se than an ENTJ would since Si and Se are both sensory functions. “ENTJ??? What? Shirogane has no Se backbone whatsoever. You'd think he'd have a better affinity with sport or any sort of (mildly) physical activity as Se users are known for their adaptability. This man learns everything through repetition (Si users often do this to gain a better impression of their physical environment. That's why Si users are usually so proficient in academics; the education system puts an emphasis on memory and diligent studying first and foremost. It should be noted that Ni generally hates repetition).” Is this seriously the most upvoted comment? See above for what I said about how athletic ability correlates to Se (hint: it doesn’t). ESTJs and ENTJs are both judgers. Neither of them are known for the adaptability of perceivers. And once again, stating that Si users are proficient in academics as if it was exclusive to them is another stereotype. Reducing Si to memory and studying is just as bad as stating that Se is sports. Kaguya is also very proficient in academics, second only to Shirogane. So why is nobody making an argument for her being an ISTJ instead? All I see here is a lot of people cherry-picking evidence and ignoring the rest of it to support arguments for ESTJ. If we’re going to talk about functions that hate repetition, generally that applies to the extraverted perceiving functions (Se and Ne) that constantly desire new stimulation and novelty. Ni hating repetition is more applicable to its socionics definition rather than its MBTI definition.
