Ne is an abstract function that sees possibilities and reads between the lines. Just because he was present in reality and actually did things does not make him an ESTP. He looks at the situation and thinks of creative ways of what he can do to get what he wants, instead of being in the moment and do what any other person would do. Pretending to be a subtitute teacher or a pilot doesnt naturally come up in peoples minds. I'm not saying ESTPs arent creative but they would usually go about things in a more straightforward way.
