1/2 These penguindrum pages are really old so I’m not sure if this is even worth it, but I’ve just watched it recently so I wanted to add my few cents to the the conversation. Today I would like to propose that Ringo is a sx2. Before reading, I ask that you abandon any stereotypical preconceptions about E2s being selfless “helpers” or fe doms/users always being accommodating and incapable of committing bad actions. The E2s passion is Pride: “The passion of Pride causes the Two to deny that they are anything but selfless, as they ignore their own needs and try to specially meet the needs of others in hopes that others will praise and appreciate them for it.” Ringo’s entire character is centered around quite literally becoming Momoka, her dead sister, in order to bring her broken family back together. She believes that this is something that she HAS to do, that SHE needs to be the one to do it, and this is ultimately because she craves the love and attention of her absent parents. Although E6 is understandable at first due to her reliance on external validation, it is important to remember that head types center around fear: they feel inadequate to deal with the frightening world, and for the E6, they combat this by seeking security in authority, people or concepts. They are heavily distrusting of their environment, and the SX6 (current consensus) especially is described as a hostile character that goes against their fear by putting up an intimidating front. Even with the description of SX6 already being unfitting for her, she doesn’t seek out people like Tabuki for security out of fear of external forces. You could say she is scared of not receiving love — however, that is all the more reason that she is part of the heart triad instead. The heart triad centers around shame: They are ashamed about a part of themselves, and so they mold their image in order to win over the love and validation of others. Here is a quote from Character and Neurosis that perfectly sums up her character: “Not every type II person remembers a childhood as a happy, loved, and pampered princess or an adorable, favorite son. In some we hear a story of deprivation, and on occasion this surfaces after some therapeutic exploration. It is possible to bring the person to see how the time of becoming a little princess was preceded by one of emotional pain. In these cases it seems as if the child wanted to be specially reassured of mother's or father's love through being specially cared for, delighted in, and tolerated in her whims or bouts of crying.” Ringo was born the day her sister Momoka died. Her parents then divorced because of her death. Currently, she lives with her mom, but she tends to be quite absent and pushes aside important dates like Curry Day, which is also Ringo’s birthday. She meets with her dad occasionally, but we later find that he has moved on and started a new family, replacing the keychain that they had bought as a family with a new one which completely breaks her. These instances hammer into her head that she is not a presence worth caring about, and not worth loving. Meanwhile, everyone around her talks about how amazing Momoka was. Perhaps she unconsciously thought that if she takes on the identity of someone that was loved by all, then she would receive that same love as well.
