WARNING: May contain spoilers for those of you who haven’t played the game(s). — Popple is not usually living in the present moment. He has a set plan and follows through. When we first meet him, he says he’s after the Chuckola Reserve. He doesn’t stop pursuing it until he basically fails the mission. He almost always has a specific goal in mind, and follows through with little regards for the feelings of those around him. One exception, however, is when he fights with Mario over the Beanstar. He bows politely to him before the battle, showcasing he does have his own inner morals and values (Fi), but it doesn’t come up very often. He is extremely ambitious and shows high amounts of (Te), especially with the way he organizes his partners in crime, or his “Rookies”. He isn’t afraid to lead and take control. In the remake, he’s shown to have several criminals lining up to work for him, having to pass an “audition” first. And before the fight with Birdo as his new accomplice, he is so determined to beat Mario and Luigi, that he goes out of his way to capture Luigi, hoping to lure Mario in as well. This shows that he does plan ahead, rather than just go along with whatever comes up in the present moment. Another example is that he continued to chase the Beanstar, even after it was shattered into fragments. Popple doesn’t steal things because they are thrilling to him, he does it because he wants to pursue his long term goal of becoming the “World’s Greatest Thief.”
