hi @[adri] While both E3 and E7 are understandable takes for Erika, both suffer from flaws that have made me doubt either as the correct diagnosis for her. However, after pondering about it, I’ve realized what the answer to these flaws is, and the answer is that Furudo is neither the marketable E3 or the opportunistic E7, but rather the counterphobic E6. While I cover the Enneagram, @[adri] will cover why FLVE is the true typing for Erika in Psychosophy. The Enneagram fixation represents irrational thought patterns within a person, thought patters which the subject itself is not aware of more often than not. Looking at Erika’s narrative and role in the story, she represents a detective who, no matter what, seeks after the „objective“ truth, completely disregarding any semblance of empathy and emotion in her pursuit of it. She is a perversion of the classic detective in the golden age of detective novels. In such times, there was a belief that the detective should be an extremely rationalistic individual, one who must not show emotional attachment to anyone in the story, especially not an emotion like love, since the detective is a detached observer of the events, not one who has any personal reasons to solve what’s in front of him, but does so either out of curiosity or out of nobility. In Erika’s case, the motivation is very clearly the prior, proclaiming herself as an intellectual rapist and having an insane amount of fixation on her own intellect with a need to shove it in people’s face and prove her intellectual superiority over others. The detachment from love or emotion however, is not natural in Erika. Something vital to understanding her type is looking at what she told Dlanor about her past, having a hunch that her partner is cheating on her, Erika has gathered all evidence for it herself, yet desperately tried to cling to the idea that this was not the case, trying to suppress her own head in favor of the heart. When confronting him with evidence, he couldn’t deny it, and it left Erika miserable, rejecting the idea of love for the rest of her life, and becoming fixated on intellect and reason as the guiding light in her life, as the only thing that she can rely on in the world of liars and feelings, mocking the most well known quote in Umineko by proclaiming that „Because of love, you end up seeing things that don't even exist. It's nothing more than an illusion, one that no one except you can see, and one that even you can never touch.“ This is the key reason to Erika’s behavior throughout the episodes she appears in. From EP5 onwards, Erika has always wanted to find out the objective truth, having no longer need to worry about being tormented by non-red words, Erika takes the role of the detective who will uncover the truth of what happened on the island, while she takes a meeker approach in EP5, her fixation on accusing Natsuhi is both representative of her own narcissistic need to be right while also showing how she won’t back down to any solution apart her own, as the worst fate the detective can suffer is to be proven wrong. Due to her loss in the same episode to Battler, Erika shows her true colors in EP6, being openly degrading towards others, taking insane steps to ensure her victory against Battler and even arguing with a child over a magic trick. Everything must be rationalized, thought over clearly and every step must be taken to achieve absolute certainty and victory by the witch of truth. Let’s now consider all of this through the view of the Enneagram. Erika’s beliefs and actions are very clearly best represented within the head triad, one which crystalizes in the intellectual center of the body, wrestling the most with the emotion of fear. The way Erika approaches the subject is through the attitude of a counterphobic 6. Her mind is extremely paranoid and distrustful of everything, yet she doesn’t seem to be aware of how cowardly she truly is. The 6 faces life as it’s a game of chess, every move must be thought out clearly before being acted out. The lengths she goes to show an insane tendency to over-think and over-evaluate everything around her, but this clearly isn’t dealt with in a SP6 fashion through alliances with others due to a distrust in oneself, nor is it dealt with in a SO6 fashion through a fixation on ideology or specific pattern of thought, but rather it is dealt with by accusation, showing off and presenting oneself as competent and strong. The SX6’s need to show strength is not only physical but also mental, understanding this explains everything about Erika’s behavior. Due to her own insecurity and weakness, she has dedicated her life to becoming intellectually strong and weaponizes her own distrust of reality and paranoia through becoming the greatest detective she can. However, let’s challenge this consensus in the replies.
