“An opportunity to prove I truly can be an invader is all that I ask.” - Episode 1 It’s not obvious throughout most of the show, but Zim’s whole motivation is centered around proving his worth. He lives to please his leaders (in his own scattered Zim way) because they are the ultimate determiners to him of who is and isn’t worthy. When he thinks that the opportunity to prove himself is no longer within his reach, he becomes dejected and apathetic, disintegrating into 9. ETF really hammers this home. Also I don’t think an 8 core would be shouting “My Tallest! Hey! Look at me!” for 3 hours straight. His tritype’s probably 3w4-8w7-6w5 (UPDATE: good arguments for his head fix being 7>6 have been made by user Sailor Chewie) More detailed reasoning in the comments below
