Starfruit is based on the real life fruit of the same name, also known as the carambola, which belongs to the plant of the same name (Averrhoa carambola), a species of woody plant in the family Oxalidaceae. The star in his name refers to the fact that he is star shaped and shoots stars in five directions, and the fruit in his name refers to the fact that he is a fruit.
