The other persona that , although rarely visited , gives the reader a more genuine insight into the character she is, is Dolores. The carefree,spunky child with a love of pop culture , comics and fooling around with her peers. With poor grades in school , a rather bad temper and little interest in academics and sophistication. This version of the character , although slightly sexually experienced is ultimately a lot more innocent and more of an actual child . The other side of Dolores that is rarely touched upon is her sorrow and vulnerability (her name as a matter of fact, represents this , Dolores means "sarrows and pains" in latin) once she loses her mother , she is left with nobody but humbert , who abuses and exploits her but acts like she is the one in power, she has no career and no money to support herself and has to deal with not only her own internal struggles, but the expectations humbert sets upon her, this pressure causes her to break out in hysteric sessions of tears every night, and also leads her to take out her frustrations in the form of rage,for a vulnerable adolescent such as herself, is yet to grow into responding to their emotions properly.Once she leaves her abusive relationship with humbert, and quilty, she is completely lonely and has to learn to be self sufficient, though this is not shown in the novel or movie adaptations, in her young adult years, she seems to have moved on with her past trauma and still maintains some affection towards humbert as a father figure, she is more preoccupied with her baby and a stable future with her husband.
