David Byrne, quoted from the book “Talking Heads - The Band and Their Music” - “I had been reading a lot of books about systems theory and management theory, theories about how the structure of a business can be like that of an organism and how the creative process can be broken down into almost a computer flow chart. So I started looking at music and the structure of words that way. I’m not sure why; it’s a philosophy that tends to be very mechanistic, and I found that fascinating for a while. I was trying, I guess in some vain hope, to see if there was an underlying rational basis for everything.”

David Byrne (born 14 May 1952) is a Scottish-American musician who was the founding member, principal songwriter, and lead singer and guitarist of the American new wave band, Talking Heads (1975–1991). Byrne is a multi-instrumentalist and is known for his distinctive voice. Since then, Byrne has released his own solo recordings and worked with various media including film, photography, opera, fiction and non-fiction.
