The Red Herring fallacy refers to an attempt to mislead, or distract an interlocutor from the issue by use of redirection by introducing and irrelevant information. This can manifest as someone changing the topic, or dodging answering a question directly. Often the topic of redirection will be better suited to the individual who commits the fallacy. In sum, the Red Herring is a distraction from the real issue by the addition of irrelevant or misleading information.
