I haven't read this book in a while, but wasn't it a thing that she was noted to be very similar in terms of how she thinks to her daughter (who we've typed as INFJ), and stayed distant from her because she was so similar? And that she only focused on the practical because that was what she has to do when her family was impoverished and they had a chance to get an education while she didn't, not because that was her natural inclination? Again, it's been too long since I've read this book to be sure of type, but I remember enough to be not sure that the obvious reasoning for ESTJ would apply.
