The 9 fanboys/girls are going to hate me for this, but he's almost as bad as the mom. Parents who let their spouses abuse their children are also complicit in the abuse. If keeping personal peace is more important than protecting your child, you are a bad parent. Not saying that all 9s are like this at all. Just that characters like this often have people jump through logical hoops to justify their neglectful behavior. 背景
Elias Spector is the father of Marc Spector, the protagonist and eponymous character of the series, and Randall Spector, Marc's younger brother. Unlike his wife Wendy, Elias does not unreasonably blame his son Marc for the death of his younger son Randall (due to an accident), clearly showing that he still loves and adores him as his father. As his wife's mental sanity gradually slips and as the family becomes more dysfunctional as a result, Elias tries his best to keep everything together. Him being unable to protect his son from his wife's abuse, unintentionally enabling her in the process, is what made Marc cut ties with him and his family, moving out of their place, the moment he turned 18, by joining the US Marine Corps. Despite all this, Elias from his part, has not disowned him, signaling Marc (who was standing outside) to come inside to attend Wendy's 'Shiva (Jewish mourning period)', after her demise (only for Marc to refuse, due to all his childhood trauma).
